Berlin CNN —An American man has been sentenced to life in prison for the rape and murder of a tourist and the attempted murder of her friend – both US citizens from Illinois – in a gruesome attack near one of Germany’s most popular tourist sights. A German court convicted the 31-year-old tourist from Michigan, identified as Troy B., for the attack on the two women near Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. Police officers arrested Troy B. near the scene of the attack. CNN —A 21-year-old American woman died after being assaulted and pushed down a slope by an American man near one of Germany’s most popular tourist sights, Neuschwanstein Castle, in Bavaria, according to local police. The victim had gone for a hike on Wednesday with her friend, a 22-year-old American woman, near the historic “Marienbrücke,” a bridge known for its views of the Neuschwanstein Castle. The two women then met a 30-year-old American man who persuaded them to follow him down a hidden trail leading to a viewpoint, according to police. After leading the women down the trail, the man “physically attacked” the 21-year-old woman, according to police. The man then choked the 22-year-old woman and pushed her down a steep slope after she intervened to help her friend.

Sculptura de doi metri înălțime ar fi dispărut în weekend, a anunțat luni ziarul local Allgaeuer Zeitung, citat de The Guardian , lăsând în urmă doar o grămadă de rumeguș pe muntele Grünten, înalt de 1.738 metri, aflat în Bavaria, la 140 km sud-vest de München. „Omagiul” adus organului genital masculin a devenit o mare atracție turistică în ultimii ani și chiar a apărut pe Google Maps, unde a fost clasificat drept „monument cultural”. Tradiția locală spune că sculptura a fost realizată de un tânăr care a vrut să facă o farsă familiei, însă aceasta nu a apreciat darul și astfel „opera” de 200 de kilograme a fost dusă pe munte. Agenția de știri germană Dpa a anunțat că poliția din orașul bavarez Kempten investighează dispariția sculpturii, deși nu este foarte clar dacă s-a săvârșit vreo infracțiune, întrucât proprietarul este necunoscut.
